Dickson Sedation Dentistry
There’s No Need to Worry
Many people experience anxiety surrounding visiting the dentist. At Accent Smile Center, we provide IV sedation dentistry in a safe, respectful, and compassionate environment so you can feel more at ease.
Dr. Gatgens spent more than 60 hours dedicated to learning the practice of IV sedation. He learned the safe and proper protocols to administer this useful medical tool for patients here in Dickson.
Benefits of Sedation Dentistry
At Accent Smile Center, we care about your experience and want you to feel comfortable. The benefits of IV sedation include:
- Feel calm and relaxed during your dental visit.
- Take care of complex procedures in a single visit.
- Catch up on years of putting off dental visits.
- A licensed nurse anesthetist administers the IV sedation.
- Depth of sleep is monitored and tailored to your needs. You’ll awaken alert and ready to go on with your day.
Risks of IV Sedation Dentistry
Not everyone is a candidate for dental sedation. Risks that could lead to complications include certain medications, obstructive sleep apnea, heart conditions, or weight.
At your appointment, Dr. Gatgens and his team will help you determine whether sedation is right for you.
What Is IV Sedation?
IV sedation is administered directly into your arm or hand. With IV sedation, patients breathe on their own while their breathing and heart rate are monitored and are still responsive to Dr. Gatgens’ prompts.
You’ll need to have a driver ready to escort you home after the procedure and to monitor you for the day, as some effects of the medication may linger for the remainder of the day.
Is IV Sedation Safe?
As with any sedation procedure, there are always some risks involved. However, these risks can be minimized by an experienced dentist like Dr. Gatgens.
He has the proper education, certification, and permits to use IV sedation as a part of his practice. When proper steps are taken, sedation dentistry is considered safe to use—even for children!
